I love stories. My favorite podcasts are This American Life, The Moth, and Mike Rowe's That's the Way I Heard It. They tell stories about interesting things that happen to interesting people. I tell stories. Sixty times each year, I step on stage and use stories to help convince audiences to change how and why they do business. I believe that effective storytelling makes content more effective, and builds businesses accordingly. Which is why I study stories. I've read a shelf's worth of books about how to do stories better. And I can tell you for a fact that perhaps the greatest book I've ever read on storytelling is finally available this week. It's called [The Storytelling Edge](=), written by Shane Snow and Joe Lazauskas from Contently. [Check out the trailer here >>](=) I want you to buy this book (less than $18 on Barnes & Noble right now) because I am absolutely positive that you will find it entertaining and enlightening. Here's my quote on the back cover: "A terrific and timely book that makes a compelling case for fundamentally rethinking how your business communicates. Recommended!" Why does this book work: - Practical. Shane and Joe give you a specific, proven system for improving your stories and your content. - True. Shane and Joe aren't afraid to talk about where modern content and storytelling are broken, and how to fix it. - Authentic. The story about Shane's randomly acquired Ryan Gosling obsession is worth the price of the book by itself. - Fascinating. Shane and Joe put great care and context into The Storytelling Edge. I loved the tale of Ben Franklin: story detective (starts on page 21). - Useful. I adore the "Sludge Report" exercise to make stories half as long (and twice as compelling). Here's how much I believe in The Storytelling Edge. If you buy it on my recommendation, read it and don't like it, let me know and I'll buy you any other book on Barnes & Noble at my expense. And if you feel like you don't quite know enough about the book to make a decision, I've got you covered. On Thursday at 2pm ET I'm doing a 9-minute Webinar called ["My 11 Favorite Storytelling Lessons (from The Storytelling Edge)"](. There, I'll tell you more about what I like and what I learned from the book. Webinar is totally free, and even if you don't buy the book, you'll learn a lot in just 9 minutes. [Visit The Storytelling Edge website for a special giveaway]() >> [View The Storytelling Edge on Barnes & Noble](=) >> [Register for the 9 minute Webinar on Thursday]([>>]( Thanks to Shane and Joe for putting together such a great read, and thanks to you for considering it.
