[Consumer Reports]
Â
Dear Friend, We have an important update on a product recall! Several weeks ago we wrote to let you know about the potential dangers associated with BlendJet 2 portable blenders due to dozens of reports about these products overheating or melting and the blades breaking off during use. CR had been warning consumers since last summer about these risks â especially after a blade broke off during our own durability test â and we called on the Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate potential hazards. Just before the new year, [BlendJet RECALLED 4.8 million blenders]( due to fire and laceration hazards. The CPSC recommends that consumers immediately stop using the recalled blenders and [contact BlendJet]( for a free replacement of the blenderâs base unit. According to the CPSC, BlendJet had received about 329 reports of blades breaking during use, and 17 reports of the blender overheating or causing fires that resulted in property damage claims totaling approximately $150,000. The company also received about 49 reports of minor burns, and one report of a laceration. Consumer Reports moved quickly to [test the redesigned base units]( and found that the blender blades did not break off as they did in our testing of the previous version, nor did the blender overheat. âSafety improvements like this cannot be possible without the active participation of consumers when they publicly report incidents,â said José Amézquita, who led the testing for CRâs Rapid Response team. If you own a BlendJet 2 blender, you can identify blenders under recall by visiting the [companyâs recall page]( or entering the serial number of your product into [BlendJetâs serial number search tool](. Everyone should be able to trust that the products in their home are safe. But we know safety defects happen, and companies arenât always quick to fix them. Itâs so important that we look out for each other and share our experiences so we can hold manufacturers accountable. Thank you for all that you do! Meg Bohne
Consumer Reports --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Friend, Blades that break off while blending a smoothie. Charging cords that melt or smoke. A blender that refuses to turn off and ultimately explodes. These are some of the [incidents associated with the]( 2 portable blender]( that have been reported by consumers, several of whom reported that they were injured. Weâre sending this Consumer Safety Alert urging you to beware of the potential for injury if you use a BlendJet 2, or if youâre considering purchasing one as a gift this holiday season. In August, Consumer Reports advised consumers to exercise caution when using the BlendJet 2 portable blender due to a dozen reports that detailed a range of problems, including its charging wire melting, its battery catching fire, and the blades breaking off under regular use. Since then, eight new complaints â with reports of three injuries â has led CR to elevate its warning, alerting consumers to the potential for serious injury when using the product. CR is calling on the manufacturer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission to immediately address these safety reports, and take whatever action is necessary to protect the public. If you own a BlendJet 2 and had an incident, [help us increase the pressure on BlendJet and the CPSC by reporting it to SaferProducts.gov]( Â

[Blend Jet]( Heavily marketed on social media and widely available at stores like Costco and Kohlâs, the BlendJet 2 is among the most popular portable blenders on the market. It is powered by lithium-ion batteries, and its lightweight design allows consumers to blend smoothies, shakes, and more while on the go. Recent incident reports indicate more issues of safety concern. One involved a blender that reportedly exploded. Another blender allegedly started smoking while it was plugged in, and the complainantâs son reportedly burned his finger when unplugging it. In addition, two more consumers complained that the blades broke off during use. [If youâve had an incident with a BlendJet 2 blender that posed a safety risk, please take a minute to report it to SaferProducts.gov]( This will help the agency determine how widespread the problem is, and give them more leverage to take action.
