to automakers to fix front-end blind zones now! Â Â Â Â Consumer Reports is doing its own testin

[Consumer Reports]   Dear Friend, Tomorrow, kids across the nation gleefully take to the streets for Trick or Treating. But unfortunately, Halloween also is one of the deadliest days of the year for pedestrians – especially children. And that threat is compounded these days by a glaring safety problem in the large SUVs and pickups that dominate our roadways – drivers who unknowingly hit people directly in front of them because of huge blind zones just past the hood. In 2020 alone, 526 people were killed from these types of incidents, many of them children, doubling the number of these deaths in just over a decade. In fact, the front-end blind zones in these vehicles are so large that in a recent CR demonstration a driver couldn’t see 10 kids lined up in front of the pickup! The auto industry has the ability to fix this deadly problem with lower hood heights and technologies that provide drivers a better view ahead or detect a child’s presence. But in the majority of pickups and large SUVs, they haven’t. Please help spread the word on Halloween about this danger, and urge friends and family to [sign our petition]( to automakers to fix front-end blind zones now!  [Share on Instagram »](  [Share on Facebook »](  [Share on Twitter »](  Consumer Reports is doing its own testing right now of front-end blind zones, and we’re pushing for national law that will require automakers to use technology that can help keep our children safe. As we do this important work, help us further pressure automakers by [sharing the petition]( with friends and family and asking them to sign on. Thank you, and have a happy and safe Halloween!
