It’s not too late to fight back against outrageous credit card late fees!   After you sign,

[Consumer Reports]   Dear Friend, $14.5 BILLION in credit card late fees. That’s how much U.S. consumers paid last year, according to a breaking report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It’s a truly outrageous amount of money, and it’s coming from our pockets. Credit card companies are raking it in by charging as much as $41 for late payments, driving consumers further into debt. But the CFPB, our consumer financial watchdog, has a plan: cap credit card late fees at $8 and ban fees if payments are just a few days late. Thanks for taking action! Marcus Jones Consumer Reports --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Friend, It is nearly impossible these days to escape fees, and credit card late fees are among the worst. Some card companies charge as much as $41 for a late payment – driving many consumers who are living paycheck to paycheck deeper into debt. Of course, the financial industry LOVES late fees – they rake in about $12 billion a year off these fees that punish customers while helping to pad their profits. But we can beat back exorbitant late fees if we speak out as consumers! The nation’s consumer financial watchdog has a plan on the table to cap credit card late fees at $8 and to ban fees if payments are just a few days late. [Join us in supporting this pro-consumer rule by signing our petition to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau now.](  [Sign the Petition](  As anyone hit with a late payment knows, the late fee gets added to your credit card balance. With credit card interest rates hovering around 20 percent, that just compounds the burden of paying off credit debt. By capping late fees at $8, the CFPB estimates consumers could save up to $9 billion a year. But this money-saving proposal faces a tough road. The financial industry is opposed to this change and is working hard to discredit the CFPB’s attempts to rein in late fees by lobbying against it. With inflation still stubborn, and so many people struggling to make ends meet, this change can help make a difference for many.[ Sign our petition supporting a cap on credit card late fees!Â](  [Sign the Petition](  Consumers like you help ensure we have a fair and just financial marketplace. You can help us spread the word about this money-saving plan by sharing this email with friends and family or posting the petition on social media.
