What’s the big deal about a little mistake on your credit report? It can cost you serious

[Consumer Reports]   Dear Friend, Friend, we did it! Nearly 50,000 CR members called on Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion to make their reports free permanently, and now it's a reality. That's the power of this community! Credit reporting agencies voluntarily provided free weekly credit report access to consumers during the pandemic, but that benefit was set to expire at the end of the year. NOW we need the credit reporting agencies to commit to making error corrections on your reports simple so you can buy what you deserve. And we need your help to do it. [Sign our petition calling on the three major credit bureaus to ensure credit reports are free of errors.](  [Sign the Petition](  What’s the big deal about a little mistake on your credit report? It can cost you serious money: getting a credit card, renting or buying a home — or even landing a new job — can all hinge on the accuracy of your credit report. Thanks to your support, we were able to shift the financial services industry to be pro-consumer, but there is still more work to be done. Your participation in our Credit Check-up community research project revealed that errors on credit reports continue to be on the rise, and this can have major effects on your financial health. We are celebrating this victory, but we still have work to do to get you the credit you deserve. [Sign our petition calling on Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion to do more to correct and minimize the amount of errors on credit reports.](  [Sign the Petition](  Errors you should be on the lookout for are basic mistakes such as a name misspelling or wrong address, to biggies like late payments that weren’t late, or even someone else’s debt on your account. Checking your credit report is critical for your financial future and errors can sabotage many opportunities. That’s why we’re excited to take this victory lap with you, but need your help to continue our fight to ensure credit reports are not only accessible and free to you but also free of errors. We want to hold the giant credit reporting company accountable for the mistakes they make in our financial records. [Demand Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion minimize and correct errors on credit reports.](  [Sign the Petition](  Thanks to consumers like you we have won a years-long fight. We have a lot to celebrate but there is more work to be done. Please share this petition and news with your friends and family. We will be in touch shortly with more ways you can take control of your financial future. Best, Marcus Jones Consumer Reports [Unsubscribe from Consumer Reports action alerts.]( © 2022 Consumer Reports, 101 Truman Avenue, Yonkers, NY, 10703 [Contact Consumer Reports](
