[Consumer Reports]   The Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal is the latest in a long line of failures by corporations to keep your information private and safe. After this recent incident, the Equifax breach last year, or countless others, we all will continue to be put at risk unless Congress acts now to protect consumers.Call (202) 883-4421 to contact your members of Congress and demand a privacy law that requires corporations to: - Protect our private information with strong data security; - Give us control over how our data is used; - Collect only the data required for the services offered. SAMPLE SCRIPT --------------------------------------------------------------- In light of the recent Facebook and Equifax data privacy violations, the time has come for Congress to pass a comprehensive new law protecting consumer privacy in the digital age. As a constituent, I’m asking my representatives in Congress to support legislation requiring corporations to: collect only the data they need, give consumers control over how their data is used, and protect consumer data with reasonable security practices. For too long, companies have profited from consumer data without giving the owners of that data — you and me — the rights, protections, and clear information they deserve. And for just as long, Congress has done nothing to update the laws on the books to fit the 21st century. Let Facebook and Equifax be our wakeup calls. Dial (202) 883-4421 to get connected with your representatives now to demand a new comprehensive privacy law to protect consumers.
