A new rule announced this week will require all new passenger vehicles to come [equipped with lifesaving technology]( to reduce injuries and save lives - and we couldn’t have done it without you, Friend! Thousands of Consumer Reports members like you raised your voices and shared your stories in support of these new safety standards, which will require all new cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks starting in 2029 to come equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking, which can detect cars and pedestrians and apply the brakes automatically in case the driver doesn’t stop. The timing couldn’t be more critical. Pedestrian deaths have skyrocketed 77 percent since 2010. And with consumers increasingly buying larger SUVs and pickup trucks with limited front visibility, this new rule should reduce crashes between vehicles both at city speeds and on the highway, as well as collisions with pedestrians, even in the dark. This is a huge win for safety. And you can help us score another critical safety win by supporting our efforts to include automatic crash notification in all vehicles. This built-in technology automatically calls first responders for help in an emergency, and gives the precise location of the car.
