[Consumer Reports]   Dear Friend, A mistake in your credit report can make or break your financial future. And a new investigation by Consumer Reports and the nonprofit WorkMoney has found that almost half of consumers who recently volunteered to check their credit reports found mistakes in them – with more than a quarter finding serious errors involving debts that could damage their credit scores, making it harder to get a mortgage, a credit card, or even a job. And despite the three credit agencies agreeing last year to give consumers credit reports for free (after a years-long campaign by Consumer Reports’ members demanding free reports), a significant number of our 4,000 volunteers said they still had trouble getting their free credit reports online.  [Let’s use our consumer muscle again to get Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to ensure credit reports are accurate]( mistakes are fixed quickly, and everyone can easily get their report free as promised. [Sign the Petition](  Consumer frustration about credit report errors has been the number one complaint submitted to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for the past three years. These mistakes can include accounts or loans that have been paid off but appear unpaid; individual loans listed multiple times; or debts incorrectly reported in collections. Misspelled names, wrong addresses, or incorrect birth dates can also cause problems for consumers trying to obtain credit. Since your credit report can determine whether you can get credit, the interest rates you pay, or whether you can land an apartment or mortgage, it’s critical they are correct. Join us in demanding the three credit bureaus: - Strengthen accuracy for credit reports – Credit reporting agencies must match additional pieces of your personal information to avoid mix-ups. - Give you control over your credit info – You should be able to access your report free, without having to endure marketing for paid services, and the credit bureaus should redesign their identity verification system so you’re not locked out if you can’t answer a question based on inaccurate or old information. [Help make sure you have a fair financial future, and not one damaged by the credit bureaus’ mistakes.]( We won free credit reports, we can win again, if everyone speaks out! [Sign the Petition]( Please share this with friends and family so they can join you in taking action. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
