After, Iâll ask you to [chip in to my battleground campaign here in NY-22.]( My family came to the United States from Ireland in the latter half of the 19th century. Their motivation to emigrate was their pursuit of the American Dream and better days that lay ahead. To my ancestors, the American Dream meant giving back to their communities in whatever way they could. I come from a family of nurses, teachers, social workers, police officers, and veterans â myself included! Growing up, my parents instilled in me their work ethic and commitment to providing for our family. My father served nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves which inspired me to pursue my call to serve our country. After I graduated high school, my Congressman nominated me to attend the Naval Academy. To my delight, I was accepted and graduated in 2001 â just a few months before 9/11. [Francis graduation photo]( At 25 years old, I was called to lead a division of nearly 40 sailors on a 40,000-ton ship. It was a big task but, in the spirit of my ancestors who always gave back to their communities, I was up for it. After returning from overseas, I decided to pursue my passions further through higher education. Being a member of the military, I was fortunate to have access to the G.I. Bill, which gave me the resources needed to get my MBA from the University of Maryland and MA in National Security Studies from the Naval War College. I wasnât going to let the call to serve our country sit in the past. This is why I was honored to be asked to serve in the Pentagon as a policy advisor to Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Jim Mattis. Fast forward a few years later, and here I am, running for Congress and following the guiding principle of my ancestors: doing what I can to serve my community. And the reality is that our country is sitting at a crossroads and we have a choice to make: will we fight to protect our democracy or will we turn our backs on it? We have a saying in the Navy, âDonât give up the ship!â Iâve always believed that our democracy is worth fighting for and Iâm running for Congress because we canât give it up. This fight wonât be easy but, with your support, I know we have what it takes to be the first over the finish line come November. So, Iâm humbly asking â [will you chip in $5 or $25 to my campaign right now?
