Your dose of music discovery from Pigeons and Planes has landed. Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Next Wave. This week, we're listening to redveil's new album learn 2 swim. We're also answering your burning questions about our dream collab album, things we look for in new artists, and more. [Subscribe to the Newsletter]( redveil - "pg baby" In celebration of his 18th birthday today, Maryland rapper redveil dropped his new album learn 2 swim. The self-produced album marks a coming-of-age moment for the artist as he prepares to tour with Freddie Gibbs and Denzel Curry in the coming months. In the past few days, "pg baby" has already surfaced as a fan favorite. The self-produced track samples “Love Me Or Leave Me” by Band Of Thieves, and features redveil at his most confident: "I attest I’m at they neck, I’m right above they collarbone." Says redveil (a.k.a. Marcus Morton) of his new album, "I create worlds filled with sunshine and water. I think water is like humanity, in a sense. It’s so fluid that it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that be good or bad. It’s essential." Listen to "pg baby" below and stay tuned for more from redveil and Pigeons & Planes later this year. Dear Pigeons is our advice column. We put out asks on social media for questions from the readers, and we'll do our best to give advice, guidance, ramblings, and recommendations based on our own experiences. Dear Pigeons, What are y'all looking for in an artist you feature? - @yunggodhtx via Instagram We’ve seen this question in many forms throughout the years. I probably give different answers each time because my brain is slop, but I think the main thing I look for is authenticity. Not in the sense of, “Do they do what they say they do in their lyrics?” The kind of authenticity I’m talking about is totally subjective. When I listen to an artist’s work, I want to believe that it's coming from a genuine place. That can come across in the delivery, the presentation, the performances, and so many more subtle ways. Authenticity isn't everything, but if that's not present in some form, the music just isn't that interesting. It's especially hard for artists to stand out today while staying true to themselves, but take [André 3000's advice]( and make the music you want to hear. If you're doing that, you'll never have to force it and your audience will feel that. - [Jacob Moore](twitter.com/mAAdycity), Founder/GM, Pigeons and Planes Dear Pigeons, Dream collab album? - @margheee2.0 via Instagram Dear margheee2.0, This is always fun to think about, and my mind goes in hundreds of different directions, from the beautiful chaos of the [much-talked about]( Denzel Curry, Slowthai, and JPEGMAFIA supergroup, to full albums by collaborators and close friends/family like Frank Ocean and Tyler or Kendrick and Baby Keem, to a pairing of favorites old and new like D'Angelo and Solange. My mind also goes to the [See You Next Year](instagram.com/seeyounextyear) compilation album that we've been working on for the past 6 months (time flies). Although it's a compilation of different songs from 10 of our favorite rising artists, we want the project to feel like a real group effort. This is Pigeons & Planes, so of course you'll hear a variety of genres and artists with different styles and approaches, but the entire team put a lot of thought into making sure the first SYNY campaign cohesive and collaborative. Could we get all the artists together in person so they get to know one another on a more personal level? Would an executive producer help us tie the album together through interludes and extra production? Who would design the cover art, and how would that tie into the larger mission and story of our brand? All these questions will be answered soon, as the pieces are finally falling into place for a LOT of exciting See You Next Year announcements. In the meantime, let us know on [Twitter]( who your dream collab album is and be sure to follow See You Next Year for the latest on our compilation album. - [Alex Gardner]( Director of Strategy & Operations, Pigeons & Planes Dear Pigeons, What's in y'all's rotation right now? - @illmissu.anthony via Instagram 2022 has been a great year for music. Denzel Curry's Melt My Eyez, See Your Future was phenomenal. His growth and versatility through the years has been impressive to watch. I've been loving Ethel Cain's new singles. KayCyy's "THE SUN" has not left my top 5 songs since it dropped. We've also been thinking about better ways to share our individual music tastes with you and keep you updated on our current rotation of new music. We recently made a few personal playlists on Spotify, which you can check out here: [Alex's Playlist]( [Jacob's Playlist]( [Maddy's Playlist](. Follow my playlist please. Alex and Jacob don't know this, but I'm in a competition with them to see who can get the most followers. Alex is winning. - [Maddy Quach]( Community Manager, Pigeons & Planes [Complex on Instagram]( [Complex on Facebook]( [Complex on Twitter]( [Complex on YouTube]( © Complex Media, Inc.
