Black August is a commemoration month; not a holiday as some have suggested. It’s a commemorative observation that originated in the 1970s in the slave camps of the United States prison system. When the rise of the prison struggles started to rise, The New Afrikan Revolutionary Prison Movement started to organize and demonstrate resistance with self defense for New Afrikan Black Prisoners against racist attacks from the state and racist organizations resulting in deaths starting with W.L. Nolen, Alvin ” Jug ” Miller, Cleveland Edwards, up to the assassinations of commanders George Jackson and Joka Khatari Gaulden, and even recently August 2015 Hugo Pinell of The San Quentin Six was assassinated a comrade of The Dragon George Jackson! Black August is a month that was formed in the inside of the prison institutions by the brothers to remember those deaths through fasting (24 hours) on Flea days on and off, studying, training and exercising the mind body and spirit intensely, especially with reading and educating themselves transforming themselves from criminals to revolutionaries. The prisons became universities and the curriculum was Revolutionary Science. [Click here to learn more]( Upcoming Events CurbFest for Political Prisoners FREE ‘ EM ALL -Saturday, August 24th from 1-4pm we invite you to join us for for the inaugural CurbFest ATL 2024. A family friendly occasion, [CurbFest]( started in 2021 by a group of organizers in Philadelphia. Since then it has expanded to a number of cities nation wide and this year we’re bringing it to the A. Look forward to experiencing music by [@geexella]( live performances [@linquafranqa]( art, cultural, and political workshops, with more details to come! The main goal of CurbFest is to not only raise awareness for our political prisoners but also material support. All funds raised leading up to and during CurbFest will be distributed to our sponsored political prisoner campaigns Kamau Sadiki and Imam Jamil Al-Amin both veteran Black Panthers with strong ties to Atlanta.
