Recent mass layoffs at a number of digital news outlets have meant more devastating losses as independent and local journalism has increasingly disappeared. Ten days ago, we kicked off our Winter Campaign. The good news? Our readership continues to climb and is way up so far in 2019. We had high hopes that all the new readers would translate into increased donations. But it's a rough time for independent media as the crisis in journalism continues to worsen. Recent mass layoffs at many newspapers and digital outlets have meant more devastating losses for independent and local news. Common Dreams has been able to survive this far because of readers like you chipping in to support our work, but we're not immune to the pressures of digital publishing and we're in a tough spot now. We now only have a few days left in the campaign and, quite frankly, we are worried. We are still $28,000 short of our critical goal. Independent, progressive media is more important now than ever. [Please take a minute now to contribute.](1f9d0/ct2_0/1?sid=TV2%3A8rB6YcKai) Our very survival is at stake.
