The impact of USPS delays on vote-by-mail is only the tip of the iceberg. {NAME}, with just 41 days to go till Election Day, election officials are already sounding alarms that delays in mail delivery could silence voters in November. [1] As you probably know, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy – appointed in the last few months of the Trump Administration -- has been undermining vote-by-mail and the USPS at every turn. DeJoy’s plan to “stabilize the USPS” translates into massive cuts and widespread facility closures – failing to deliver the cost savings he promised while making us pay the price with slower service, hiked postage rates, and a Postal Service that risks letting voters down this November. That’s why last week, a bipartisan, nationwide group of top state election officials spoke out together – cautioning that Postal Service problems could disenfranchise voters across the country. [2] {NAME}, these election officials wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t serious. And the impact of USPS delays on vote-by-mail is only the tip of the iceberg – Americans rely on the Postal Service every day to stay in touch with loved ones, to receive life-saving medications, and to keep up with the news. The good news is that earlier this summer, we won a significant victory in the USPS fight when President Biden put forward two nominees to the USPS Board of Governors – the only federal agency with the power to fire Louis DeJoy and STOP his plan to sabotage our Postal Service. But already, legislative gridlock, including legislative dirty tricks, including exploiting a potential government shut down to force through voter suppression laws just this week. [Now, we must double down on our fight to ensure these nominees can get up-or-down votes in the Senate, safeguard our USPS, and save our right to vote by mail.
