{NAME}, I have great news: President Biden has just taken a crucial step towards firing Trump administration holdover and Republican megadonor Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General. [1] By nominating former Rep. Val Demings as the final member of the USPS Board of Governors (as well as another pending nominee) required to get rid of DeJoy, President Biden is showing he’s heard what you and thousands of others across the country have demanded – that he take bold action to save our Postal Service. As you know, the current Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, has a history of undermining vote-by-mail and the USPS at every turn. That’s why, since Biden took office, we've been urging him to fill vacancies on the Board of Governors needed to remove DeJoy – since the president can’t fire him on his own. Thanks to your action, the President finally has put forward the nominees who can get rid of DeJoy. We took on this fight knowing it was an uphill battle – with DeJoy hoping to steal away our right to vote by mail without us noticing. But now, our collective action and persistence have finally paid off. Not only have we forced DeJoy to postpone his attacks on vote-by-mail until after the 2024 election [2] – but now, if the Senate confirms Demings to the USPS Board of Governors, he could be out of a job entirely! With this step forward, we have the momentum to guarantee that our USPS will be safe from DeJoy's schemes for good. And I’ll be in touch soon with updates about the confirmation process – because we’ll need your help to urge the Senate to take swift action to save our Postal Service. But I wanted to make sure you heard this exciting news first – as a powerful reminder that your action makes a serious difference. Thanks for all you do, Aaron Scherb, Senior Director of Legislative Affairs and the team at Common Cause P.S. Common Cause members like you were CRITICAL to winning this victory, and as we turn towards Senate confirmation, we must continue to move the needle forward to defend our Postal Service and our right to vote by mail.
