After I lost my son to gun violence, I spent years as an outspoken advocate for gun control to try to make sure no more mothers would feel the pain of a child taken too soon. Gun violence disproportionately affects the Black community and, through my advocacy work, I realized the change we were so desperate for wasn’t happening because those representing us often aren’t one of us. They couldn’t feel the urgency we feel for drastic gun reform; they couldn’t relate. I learned that, in order to see real change, I needed to be in the position to create it. That’s why I ran for Congress — and in part thanks to The Collective PAC’s help, I won. [Now, as the GOP tries to take back their Congressional majority, my seat has become a target, and I need your support.
