From Florida, Georgia, Texas, and more, every new bill is another attempt to silence Black voices. Recently, Texas House Democrats walked out of session to put a stop to Senate Bill 7 and protect voting rights. This bill was a deliberate attempt to silence the voices of Black and Brown voters, just see what DNC Chair, Jaime Harrison, has to say: “This is probably the most blatant attempt to really curb Black and Brown voting that i've seen in my lifetime” — Jaime Harrison Defeating this bill was a HUGE victory, but the battle is far from over. Gov. Abbott is expected to call a special session to try to keep pushing this bill that will disenfranchise voters. [This is why we must pass the For the People Act to protect voting rights nationwide. Voter suppression bills all across the country are a direct response to that turnout and Republicans' way of making sure it never happens again. The For the People Act would standardize early voting, no-excuse mail-in voting, and automatic voter registration, while combating gerrymandering. This legislation would put an end to the GOP’s racist attacks on the right to vote and ensure everyone possible has equal access to the ballot box.
