He was born and raised in Dallas by a single mom, who was a public school teacher and sometimes worked two jobs to make ends meet. Thanks to his family and a strong support system of teachers, coaches, and the good folks at the YMCA, Colin earned a full ride football scholarship to Baylor University and then went on to play in the NFL. After five years as a linebacker in the NFL, he went on to become a voting rights lawyer and served in the Obama Administration. Then in 2018, he ran against a 22-year GOP incumbent and won by 7 points to help take back the House.
