In the past two weeks, there has been a flurry of NFT "bad news" — video game publisher Team17 abandoned its NFT plans after pushback from its community, the WWF also cancelled its NFT launch due to environmental concerns, the @NFT Instagram was banned forever for violating Facebook policies to disclose ads, the list truly goes on. It’s become the norm almost for any non-inherently crypto company to get a large amount of backlash if they dare to dip their toes into the NFT realm. Why is it such a thing to hate on NFTs? We can break down this anti-NFT hate into a few categories. - Environmental concerns. People love to care about the planet. I care about the planet! NFTs arguably use up a lot of energy, which is bad for the planet. Therefore, NFTs are bad for the environment and we don’t like them. - Scams. This implies that many NFT-haters are really altruistic at heart — they are so worried about other people falling for fake NFT scams that they would rather NFTs disappear altogether! Who knew that so many people cared about other peoples’ risky investments? - Clout. Sometimes, it’s cool to dislike what other people like. Since NFTs became the hot new thing, the hipster-minded population at first were on board — what a cool new form of art! Of technology! But then, NFTs became too popular, and it was no longer something special to be a part of — NFTs became mainstream. Therefore, it’s cooler to be against NFTs than to be for them, so we don’t like them. We admit that we are being facetious here, but jokes aside, it’s fascinating to see how many people (both online and in real life) spend so much of their time discussing how much they do not like NFTs and don’t want them to exist. NFTs may go on to be one of those polarizing things that define your personality — just like people who love or hate cilantro, or marmite, or pineapple on pizza. (I happen to love pineapple on pizza). Today’s Top Stories Check out [CoinMarketCap Alexandria]( for tech deep dives, analysis, daily news and easy-to-understand guides on how crypto works!
