We’ve already discussed this particular tricky topic when some NFL players earlier this year started publicizing their crypto paychecks — but now, the question is back, all due to the mayor of New York. That’s right (as weird as it sounds) — the newly elected mayor of New York, Democrat Eric Adams, has already taken to Twitter to tweet that he will take his first three mayoral paychecks in Bitcoin. As an aside I’m not sure how the logistics of that will work? (How will the mayor’s office figure out the accounting, will the finance department have to buy Bitcoin in order to pay their new leader in crypto?). Adams’ Bitcoin paycheck idea is even stranger in that it comes from a dare — crypto personality Anthony Pompliano mused on Twitter on who the first American politician to accept their salary in BTC would be, the mayor of Miami said "me! me!" and then Adams said "actually, I’ll take three." In an interview with Bloomberg this week (before his Bitcoin salary decision), Adams had also said he was going to take a serious look "at what’s preventing the growth of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city." I have a few responses to that already — what’s preventing the growth? Clearly, the BitLicense (a ridiculously complex series of requirements that companies need to operate with crypto in NY). But also, how slow is the growth, really? Didn’t last week see the entire Times Square billboard system lit up with NFT art? Isn’t NYC the capital of some of the most major crypto and blockchain conferences in the world? Adams is still a mayor-elect, only set to take office on Jan. 1. We’ll be waiting to see what happens when that first BTC paycheck for him goes through — maybe we’ll even throw a viewing party and watch live on blockchain explorer. [Today’s Top Stories ]( NYC’s New ‘Crypto Mayor’ Wants His Salary in Bitcoin ₿ Eric Adams, who will become the next mayor of New York City on Jan. 1, 2022, plans to start his new job with a crypto splash — he tweeted that he will be receiving his first three paychecks entirely in Bitcoin. Adams’ bullish tweet comes after the mayor of Miami declared he would accept his next paycheck in BTC, following an open question to politicians about BTC salaries by crypto personality "Pomp" on Twitter. It’s wild what one small crypto tweet can snowball into! [Read the full story here.]( Square’s Bitcoin Revenue Up From Last Year, But Down From Q2 😟 Square’s quarterly earning statement has come with some good news, and with some bad news. The good news first — the company’s Bitcoin revenue is up 11% since last year due to trading on its Cash App. The bad news? Square’s Bitcoin trading revenue is actually down about 23% from last quarter. The decrease can be explained by Bitcoin's relatively "boring" price movement for the past month or so — when Bitcoin does crazy things, people trade. When it’s stagnant, trading just isn’t as fun.[Read more here.]( SHIB Crashes Over 26% on the Week 📉 Are you tired of hearing about SHIBA Inu? So are we! But the dog-themed memecoin is making headlines again today — this time for losing over a quarter of its value in the past day. This fall brings this dog out of the top ten on CoinMarketCap. SHIB’s quick fall may have something to do with a SHIB whale casually [moving around]( a couple billion in SHIB yesterday (without actually selling), or maybe there’s another reason the dog coin lost some of its bite. Axie Infinity Sidechain Launches a DEX 😺 Axie Infinity — one of the most popular play-to-earn games — is in the news again. After launching Ronin this summer, a custom sidechain, Ronin has released its own DEX, Katana — making it that much easier for Axie Infinity players to swap tokens on the sidechain and move tokens around the Axie ecosystem in general. Smooth Love Potion, a token used to play Axie, has seen its market cap increase by over 240% on the day. Binance Looking for Squid Rug Pullers 🦑 The entire world has heard about the rise and fall of Squid Game token already — but it seems that the scam token based off of (but not at all affiliated with!) the top Netflix show is not out of the spotlight yet. Crypto exchange Binance said in a statement yesterday that their security team is launching a goodwill investigation into the SQUID rug pull, and that they would blacklist addresses from withdrawing if they were linked to the scam. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
