Yesterday, Tesla again made a vaguely public announcement (in the form of a filing to the U.S. SEC) where it stated that it may, "in the future," allow for crypto transactions again for its electrical vehicles. This is an old story — Tesla had started accepting Bitcoin for cars back in the spring of this year, only to change its mind after Elon Musk did some more research into Bitcoin’s environmental impact (you’d think he would have made up his mind on that before adding BTC as a payment system and then taking it away). Tesla’s latest change of mind brings up the question — do you actually want to spend your Bitcoin on physical things? As I wrote yesterday, a man once spent 10,000 Bitcoin on two pizzas — do you want that to be you (albeit with a Tesla?). On the one hand, it’s great and all to send and receive crypto for real life goods (or even NFTs) — you’re really interacting with the ecosystem as if it is a real currency that has value. On the other hand, the market is so incredibly, ridiculously volatile that every time you buy something with Bitcoin, you will always hear that voice in the back of your head questioning if you just accidentally spent $1 million on a cup of coffee. Either way, at some point in the future, you may (maybe) be able to buy Teslas with Bitcoin again. Yay, I guess?
