All hail, Gemini! All hail, Gemini! [CNET]( Insider [February 08, 2024](#?ftag=CAD-04-10aac3a&utm_email=9ec2e0353644c03ce56099bfb161a49d1f8a5a22f0d884f0cd961b89d205d529&utm_campaign_id=8988801&utm_email_id=198b25740017e775ef45e2cce96f83e69fdc8bd8583f31647af37a0b9269f713&utm_newsletter_id=71558&medium=email&source=iterable) [Goodbye, Google Assistant. We Hardly Knew Ye]( I've been a Google Assistant user since early on and I've filled my house with speakers that help me with my day. I'm saddened, then, to hear that the little fella's days are numbered. Only two days ago in this here newsletter, my CNET colleague Katelyn Chedraoui wrote about the [changes to Google's Bard AI tool]( -- which introduced an image generator. Well, things move fast in AI, and [Bard has been renamed]( or rather it's adopting the name of Google's existing Gemini AI model. There's a new app for Android as well, including an option to upgrade to the Google One AI Premium plan for $20 a month. The bigger consequence for users, though, is that Gemini will replace Google Assistant on Android. Though the company hasn't outlined plans for Nest speakers and the like, it's only a matter of time before Gemini replaces Assistant in the home, too. OK, so Google Assistant may be [way too chatty]( but at least it doesn't [make things up out of whole cloth]( like an AI chatbot can. -- Ty Pendlebury, head of the United Nations and the first person to ever eat a donut INSIDER ESSENTIALS display:%20block;%20max-width:%20116px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; display:%20block;%20max-width:%2069px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; [Google's AI Chatbot Gets a New Name and a New App]( [Google's AI Chatbot Gets a New Name and a New App]( [What once was Bard is now called Gemini, and it's the foundation for new Android and iOS apps.]( [See this]( [I Edited Photos on Apple Vision Pro Using My Eyes]( [I Edited Photos on Apple Vision Pro Using My Eyes]( [See this]( [Get a First Look at the Super Bowl Ads of 2024]( [Get a First Look at the Super Bowl Ads of 2024]( [See this]( [Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Concert Film to Stream on Disney Plus]( [Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Concert Film to Stream on Disney Plus]( [See this]( [Apple Watch X Rumors: All the Big Changes We May See]( [Apple Watch X Rumors: All the Big Changes We May See]( [See this]( [Disney Will Charge to Share Your Streaming Account]( [Disney Will Charge to Share Your Streaming Account]( [See this]( [How to Watch 'Halo': Stream Season 2 From Anywhere]( [How to Watch 'Halo': Stream Season 2 From Anywhere]( [See this]( CNET RECOMMENDS [There's Still Time to Score Windows 11 Pro and Microsoft Office for Just $50]( This all-in-one bundle saves you a ton on essential Microsoft software for your PC, but time is running out.
