Now, things are changing. The iPhone maker on Friday confirmed to 9to5Mac that [it will adopt the rich communication services]( standard in 2024. RCS is a feature-rich global standard for text messaging that operates at a higher level than SMS and MMS. Apple has resisted adopting it for years. In 2022, Tim Cook notably told a frustrated user, [“Buy your mom an iPhone.”]( So what does the news mean for us iPhone users? For now, nothing will change. Over the next year, we will hopefully see improvements when we text with non-iPhone friends. An Apple spokesperson told 9to5Mac that iMessages will “continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.” Based on what we know now though, the move is unlikely to bridge the blue and green bubble divide.
