Animated lawn decorations are where it's at. [CNET]( Insider [October 26, 2023](#?ftag=CAD-04-10aac3a&utm_email=9ec2e0353644c03ce56099bfb161a49d1f8a5a22f0d884f0cd961b89d205d529&utm_campaign_id=8133179&utm_email_id=569b3400ebbb2c705282af9055a9a54bc44ecb59981575b9ca61a12134af52a0&utm_newsletter_id=71558&medium=email&source=iterable) [This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween]( I’ve lived in the inner city for most of my adult life, but in my younger days I was in a more rural setting. One of the things I really miss is having a yard -- a place to play, room for pets. And we had a sandpit that I used to dig cat turds out of regularly. But the holidays are when I get the most envious of people with big yards -- I used to love Christmas lights as a kid, and even still into my adulthood. Halloween is the big precursor to Christmas displays, and some in my family even prefer it. Spooky witches. Ghoulish ghosts. Jump scares -- the lot. Even near where I live in NYC, neighbors attract hundreds of trick-or-treaters with stoop-mounted props, light displays and bucketsful of candy. If you want to be the envy of your own neighborhood, there’s no option but to go big. In our [roundup of Halloween decorations]( one of the items that literally jumped out at me was the new Home Depot Jack Skellington. As author Gael Fashingbauer Cooper explains, this 13-foot giant is good to go through to the end of the year -- just slap a Santa hat on him. I did notice that some stores may not get stock till after Halloween, but are offering the colossus for half price. Store the skeleton under the stairs or set up in the spare bedroom and scare the visiting in-laws.
