What the iPhone 15 Tells Us About the Future of Phones

Mobile gaming is getting even better. There are four models this year, but like always, the Pro and Pro Max versions come equipped with the biggest technological advances. Apple’s new [A17 Pro Bionic]( processor is what stood out the most to me. It’s the company’s first 3-nanometer chip and comes with over 19 billion transistors, so it's going to be fast. The big news here is that the A17 Pro Bionic’s six-core GPU can now enable ray tracing in games and other applications. In other words, it's powerful enough to run console-quality games right from your phone. Apple touted that the full version of Assassin's Creed Mirage, as well as Resident Evil 8 and a few other games, will be coming to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Wow. So you’re telling me that I can just have a full copy of the latest Assassin’s Creed on my phone and play it whenever and wherever I want? That’s sweet. Obviously there’s a lot we still don't know about how that will work. Does playing a game like that kill the battery life? Will it take up all the space on my phone? Will I need Wi-Fi or a strong 5G signal to play it? Either way, the fact that the [iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max]( are capable of playing games of that caliber makes me wonder about the future of phones and console gaming. I think a lot of people don’t want to be tethered to their TV/console and would love to take their games with them wherever they go. On paper, the iPhone 15 lineup looks like a fairly bland upgrade, but in reality, it could be the beginning of even greater change.
