Rising temperatures can pose significant risks to our pets. I can guess what you’re probably thinking: “Macy, you wrote another newsletter intro about your dog?!” Well, yes. But I have a good reason. And before you respond, “This is a tech website. Write about tech!” I will implore you to scroll down a little to preview all of the great tech-related news and reviews I included below. (And then scroll back up to finish my intro, of course.) I’m not just writing about my pup because he’s unreasonably cute (he is) or because he’s the best boy (he is), but it’s also because his safety, and the safety of everyone’s beloved pets, is a critical concern this summer. Heatwaves and extreme temperatures pose a major risk to pets and humans alike. Our furry companions can actually experience heat-related illnesses like heat strokes and dehydration, as well as paw pad burns. I’m always mindful of the fact that the pavement can torch the bottom of my dog’s paws. And I make sure to stop regularly at public drinking fountains with spigots for dogs to make sure Holden is hydrated and comfortable during our walks, but there are so many other things to consider when it comes to physical safety during the brutally hot summer months. Luckily, CNET expert Nasha Addarich Martínez has [investigated warning signs]( heat-related illnesses and tips to keep your pet safe in the heat. You can find all of this, and so much more, in today’s newsletter. -- Macy Meyer, editor INSIDER ESSENTIALS display:%20block;%20max-width:%20116px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; display:%20block;%20max-width:%2069px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; [Heat Safety for Pets: Tips for a Healthy and Happy Summer]( [Heat Safety for Pets: Tips for a Healthy and Happy Summer]( [Follow these tips to keep your furry friends safe in the summer heat.]( [See this]( [iPadOS 17 Beta Is Here and It's Already Making Things Better]( [iPadOS 17 Beta Is Here and It's Already Making Things Better]( [See this]( [AI and You: Get Up to Speed on the Latest in Artificial Intelligence]( [AI and You: Get Up to Speed on the Latest in Artificial Intelligence]( [See this]( [WatchOS 10: New Apple Watch Features From the Public Beta]( [WatchOS 10: New Apple Watch Features From the Public Beta]( [See this]( [Ketchup vs. Mustard: The Ultimate Summer Condiment Showdown]( [Ketchup vs. Mustard: The Ultimate Summer Condiment Showdown]( [See this]( [iOS 17 Hands-On: StandBy Mode and Stickers Live Up to the Hype]( [iOS 17 Hands-On: StandBy Mode and Stickers Live Up to the Hype]( [See this]( [What to Know About Aspartame, Diet Sodas and Cancer Risk]( [What to Know About Aspartame, Diet Sodas and Cancer Risk]( [See this]( CNET RECOMMENDS [Free and Incredibly Useful Apps You Need to Download for College]( These apps won't be on your regular back-to-school list, but they'll help first-year students save time and money.
