Like most holidays we get to celebrate together, my family and I made our way to the beach for a day. Even though the ocean is chilly in mid-May, I still waded out into the surf to enjoy the feel of the waves. As much as I love the water, the ocean is rough this time of year, and I was struggling to stay on my feet even just a few yards out from the shoreline. I can’t help but think of the profound power of the waves -- and apparently I'm not the only one. With 70% of the Earth's surface covered by oceans, scientists have long pondered the potential of harnessing that energy. Waves aren’t just powerful and beautiful, they could be one of our largest sources of renewable energy. [A new CNET deep dive]( down the Biden administration’s Ocean Climate Action Plan to illustrate how marine energy, both from offshore wind power and underwater sources such as waves, tides and currents, could be converted to onshore electricity. Scientists and leaders alike can see the potential of marine energy to advance the exploration for cleaner energy consumption and the fight against climate change.
