But this one is cheaper. [CNET]( Insider [March 09, 2023](#?ftag=CAD-04-10aac3a&utm_email=02015bee48352e908c609176b0b8e62f74e1d7c914618055c65562e7c03efb52&utm_campaign_id=6359239&utm_email_id=3a33e9cd5c1f9f6bd3a43ed6ed4bd9bdbddf40641ac530dcd3d4f0fba8baa2f9&utm_newsletter_id=71558&medium=email&source=iterable) [Dell Takes on the Surface]( I’m a sucker for a [2-in-1 laptop]( and I always have been. As a student, I fell in love with the idea that I could handwrite notes on my tablet and then quickly connect a keyboard for typing and navigating around my computer. Naturally, I was a little obsessed with the [Microsoft Surface]( even though I was -- and still am -- an Apple fangirl. My [iPad]( and [Apple Pencil]( were great for handwriting notes, but the keyboards available at the time were clunky or expensive. Also, Surface computers came with trackpad support long before it became available for iPads, so it seemed like Microsoft had it all figured out. But the more I played with the device at Best Buy, the more I realized that there were still quite a few software problems that made the Surface difficult to navigate. I didn’t love the apps available on the platform and I found the whole tablet mode thing very confusing. I didn’t end up getting a Surface, but I’ve always kept my eye on hybrid computers, hoping that someone would finally crack the code and deliver a truly seamless product. Now Dell is taking a crack at the hybrid computer in its latest [XPS 13 2-in-1](. I’m not sure this is the holy grail computer I’ve been looking for, but at least it's cheaper than its Microsoft counterpart. It looks like a worthy rival to Microsoft, but I guess I’m still holding out hope that Apple will come to my rescue with its own iPad/Mac combo. I’m not holding my breath, but a girl can always dream.
