Please do this before the House votes on HR1, time is ticking We’ve got an important update on House Republicans’ top-priority legislation to roll back our climate progress, team. According to reports emerging this morning, House Republicans are nervous about keeping their slim majority in line to get H.R. 1 over the finish line. And they should be. This bill is a political loser. Americans support the transition to clean energy and don’t want to see a giveaway to Big Oil. Every vulnerable Republican should be forced to confront that basic fact -- especially if Kevin McCarthy is determined to push forward with a floor debate this week. There are 18 Republican representatives in districts that voted for President Biden and climate action. They need to understand that there’s a political cost for failing to stop this polluter giveaway and rolling back the climate progress we’ve made. Now’s the time to make your voice heard and remind these representatives what’s at stake if they support this bill. We’ve drafted a quick tweet for you to share directly with them. [SEND TWEETS]( Thanks for taking action to stop the Big Oil giveaway, Climate Power ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Climate Power Date: March 21, 2023 To: {EMAIL} [THE HILL Headline: Republicans aim to boost oil, gas in energy package]( Have you seen this? House Republicans just announced their top priority bill since taking their narrow majority -- and it takes direct aim at our climate and clean energy progress. Republican’s H.R. 1 -- some are calling it the Polluters Over People Act -- is a blatant attempt to unwind the accomplishments we fought for and that Democrats in Congress made a reality in the Inflation Reduction Act, all while giving massive handouts to the fossil fuel industry at the expense of the American people. Right now, Leader McCarthy is building consensus among members of the Republican caucus around these measures that would “claw back” benefits that help families save money on their energy bills, investments that create stable family-supporting jobs in sustainable industries, and provisions that reduce deadly pollution in communities most impacted. But the passage of their plan is not a given. Republican’s narrow majority in the House means that McCarthy’s job is tricky. So, we have a plan, team -- but we need your help: We’ve identified 18 Republican representatives in districts won by President Biden who would be most likely to buck the party line to vote against these dangerous plans and stand up for the families in their districts. These lawmakers need to hear from you -- they need to know where the public stands and that we will call them out publicly for missteps like this legislation that endangers lives and livelihoods. We’ve drafted a quick tweet for you to share directly with them. [CLICK HERE]( We won’t let Republicans pass this plan quietly or without a fight. When Republicans take legislative action that costs American families hard-earned money and threatens the critical climate action we’ve been able to accomplish, we must speak up loudly and publicly. By tweeting your dissent and sharing this harrowing plan with your friends, family, followers, and representatives, we’re making it clear where we as the American public stand. And that we won’t stand for policies that pander to oil and gas giants over people’s lives. Now’s the time to take a stand and make sure this giveaway to Big Oil does not become law.
