this may be a long email, but it's been a wild week for Big Oil>> Hey there, it’s Alex Witt, and it’s been a wild week for Oil and Gas giants. Last week, Big Oil had to answer to the Senate’s Budget Committee. But that was just the beginning. This may be a long email because there’s a lot to share, but it all comes down to this: Oil and Gas giants will do anything they can to keep their profits high, including price gouging American families and trying to kill our clean energy future. Here’s what you need to know: Outrageous Profits Big Oil’s first-quarter earnings are in, and the top five companies alone raked in a total of $26.5 BILLION in profits from January through March of this year. Let’s put that in perspective: BP made $1.24 MILLION PER HOUR Chevron made $2.47 MILLION PER HOUR ConocoPhillips made $1.10 MILLION PER HOUR ExxonMobil made $3.75 MILLION PER HOUR Shell made $3.53 MILLION PER HOUR It’s important to remember that Big Oil is not making massive profits due to its business savvy. It’s price gouging, plain and simple. Too Much Power at the Pump The founder and former CEO of Pioneer Natural Resources -- an Oil and Gas company currently merging with Exxon -- is accused of colluding with OPEC to raise consumer prices and pad company profits at the expense of American families. While folks like us budget to make ends meet, Big Oil executives are pocketing big profits and bigger salaries, and looking out for their already wealthy stockholders and board members. And this is just the latest example. But before we call that the most shocking example of greed, how about something truly scandalous to consider? Paying Trump’s Legal Fees?!?! Having already given $25 MILLION to Trump and MAGA Republican campaigns for the 2024 campaign cycle, they’re taking things a step further: paying Trump’s legal fees. As wild as it may sound, in the first few months of 2024, Big Oil has already pumped nearly $6.5 MILLION into Trump’s joint fundraising committee, which is doing what? Prioritizing paying off Trump’s legal fees. Of course. This is unprecedented. Fossil fuel interests have made it super clear that they are willing to help pay Trump’s legal defense to help keep him out of jail. Why? Because there’s nothing Big Oil wants more than to undo our climate progress. And a Trump presidency is their best bet. Big Oil’s Drafting Executive Orders But that’s not all. This morning, Politico broke the news that Big Oil is already drafting executive orders for Trump to sign on DAY ONE if reelected. And why wouldn’t they be? They can expect Trump to deliver Big Oil’s wishlist wrapped in a bow, install them into positions of power in his administration (as he’s done before!), and kill our climate progress. I’ll pause there for now, but we could write a book on the ways Oil and Gas giants are taking advantage of American families to line their own pockets. This is what we’re up against. We’re fighting back by exposing the truth and making sure people know the real greed and deception the Oil and Gas industry stands for. If you’re with us and ready to help spread that message, join our Climate Truth campaign to hold Big Oil accountable. [JOIN NOW]( American workers are already building our clean energy future. There’s hope for our future. We can break through Big Oil’s doublespeak and disinformation.
