Retargeting tips, sponsorships, and much more… Newsletter #9: Retargeting tips, sponsorships, and much more… By The ClickFunnels Team September 14, 2023 Hey, We’re on newsletter #9 already and there are still so many tips, ideas, and insights to send your way. Starting with the nuggets we’ve uncovered this week… WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO DISCOVER... - Four simple steps to retargeting your audience - A very popular lead funnel to hack - Handling overwhelm as a business owner or entrepreneur - Marketing advice from Steve Jobs - Should you start sponsoring events? RETARGETING: HOW TO STAY TOP OF MIND AND INCREASE SALES I’m sure you’ve had the experience of visiting a website and then seeing ads for that same product or service follow you around the internet. A couple of years ago, people wondered if it was a coincidence. Now we know, it’s retargeting. And retargeting is big business: - According to a study by Google, retargeting can increase conversions by up to 200%. - Another study by HubSpot found that 70% of consumers are more likely to buy from a brand that retargets them. - And a study by AdRoll found that retargeting can increase brand awareness by up to 70%. One thing’s for sure, if you’re not retargeting your audience, you’re leaving sales on the table. For example, Allbirds is a shoe company that sees great results with retargeting. If someone visits the Allbirds website and looks at a particular pair of shoes, Allbirds will show that person an ad for those specific shoes on other websites that they visit. They also target people who have abandoned their shopping carts. If someone adds a pair of shoes to their cart but doesn't complete the purchase, Allbirds might send them an email reminder or show them a retargeting ad on another website. As a result of their retargeting efforts, Allbirds saw a 30% increase in sales. How to successfully retarget your audience We all know it's rare for someone to see your ad for the first time, then go to your site and take the action you want. Typically, people need to be exposed to the offer multiple times (experts suggest this number is around 7). Retargeting is how you get them there. But what sort of retargeting ads should you show them? Let’s say you have a free plus shipping offer to sell a book you have written. Someone visits the sales page, looks around, but leaves without buying the book. Assuming you’ve set up your pixels (there’s a lot of info about how to do that on the [ClickFunnels blog]( and [help center]( you now have the ability to send them into a retargeting funnel: 1. You can create a Google Display ad with a picture of the book that appears when they’re browsing the internet. 2. If they still don’t buy, you can target them with a video of you reading an interesting section of the book. 3. If they still don’t buy, you can target them with an image showcasing testimonials people have written about the book. 4. If they still don’t buy, you can offer them a limited-time free bonus to go with the book. Plus, everything can be organized so the visitor doesn’t get bombarded with ads all in one go. You can set it so they only see the display ad for 2 days after visiting your funnel, the video of you on days 3 & 4, the testimonials on days 4 & 5, and the offer on days 5 & 6. To be honest, this is really just scratching the surface. You can be as creative as you like. You can do cool things with video ad retargeting. You can add YouTube ads to the mix. But if you start with these 4 simple steps, you should see a noticeable boost in your results. What would be really interesting is to see the retargeting ‘funnel’ of an ads expert or business that has successfully implemented retargeting ads. If you post a detailed breakdown or case study in the ClickFunnels Facebook group with #newsletter in the title, there’s a good chance it will be added to the newsletter… THE ART OF STORYSELLING PART 2 On Monday, we discussed the power of storyselling and how shaping our marketing stories around a movement can be very powerful. Well, later that day, a video popped up on my timeline of Steve Jobs doing a far better job of explaining it than I did. In the video, Steve talks about how and why marketing is about values and then gives examples of values-based marketing. If you’ve got a few minutes, check out the video [here]( Then, if you’re if you feel like diving deeper, watch Simon Sinek’s TED talk titled ‘How Great Leaders Inspire Action’ [here](. Between the two, you’ll get some great ideas for your marketing. In fact, I’ll create a couple of ads based on the lessons taught in these videos, test them against current ads, and let you know how they get on. SPONSORSHIPS: ALIGNING YOUR BRAND WITH CAUSES AND EVENTS YOUR CUSTOMERS CARE ABOUT A lot of people talk about collaborations and paid posts, but have you ever considered sponsoring an event? Sponsorships can be a great way for you to reach new customers, enhance your brand’s reputation, and build relationships with businesses in your market that are doing big things. And you don’t have to be a big name to do it. Imagine you’ve just got your business up and running and decide to put on a summit as a lead magnet… If another business owner approaches you and says they would like to sponsor your summit by building you a funnel and sharing it with their audience, you would probably pay them some interest, right? Even if their audience is small. If you’re interested in doing something outside the norm and giving sponsorships a go, here are 4 steps to follow: 1. Set clear goals: Before diving in, take the time to figure out what you want to achieve. Do you want to increase brand awareness? Generate leads? Build relationships? Give back to the community? Knowing what you want to achieve will help you choose the right event and negotiate your reward. 2. Choose the right event: Not all events are created equal. When choosing an event to sponsor, make sure that it is a good fit for your target audience and that it will reach the people you are trying to reach. (The best way to find events is to search online, attend industry events, and read industry magazines.) 3. Decide what you want to offer: Do you want to fund the event in return for exposure? Do you have a list or following you can market the event to? Can you increase the value of the event via free products or experiences? Think about what value you can offer. 4. Reach out to the event organizer: Events that are actively seeking sponsorship should have a dedicated page on their website. This page will typically list the benefits of sponsorship, the cost, and how to contact the event organizer. Otherwise, they may have information on their social media. If you cannot find any information about sponsorship on the event's website or social media pages, it may be that they simply haven’t thought about it. In this case, contact them via email or social media and give them the idea! Remember back to newsletter #2… Former President and CEO of Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp Butch Spyridon effectively offered to sponsor the NFL draft in return for hosting it in Nashville. If the VP of Events at the NFL can be talked into it, I’m sure a lot of event organizers can. FUNNEL OF THE WEEK The funnels from the Funnel Builder Design-A-Thon we shared on Monday were very popular, so we wanted to share another one today. The first-ever Design-A-Thon competition was to design a lead funnel. We showcased overall winner Malia Burcham’s funnel in newsletter #1. This funnel by Marchello Sciortino was a very close 2nd.
