[LCCHR logo desktop]( [LCCHR logo desktop]( #link Dear {NAME}, When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech alongside other civil rights leaders on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, my Dad was protesting the bulldozing of homes in a Black neighborhood in Syracuse, New York, and listening to the speech on the radio. You see, while he supported the march by sending people from the community to attend, he stayed behind to continue the protesting at home. As a civil rights and economic justice activist, my Dad knew that the fight for civil rights had to be waged in every community, and the commitment sometimes required leading by doing, connecting the local to the national, and the national to the local. It's a lesson that I never forgot and one that I pledged to keep two years ago when I joined The Leadership Conference as president and CEO. The struggle for civil rights and the promise of justice in all its forms continues. In fact, we are living in an era where we have witnessed the systematic attack on the same voting rights that Black people only won with the Voting Rights Act of 1965 — a full century after the abolition of slavery. We have witnessed the complete reversal of the fundamental right to abortion — the first time in our nation's history that the Supreme Court took away a fundamental right — sending the issue back to states where intentional voter suppression and abortion bans go hand in diabolical hand. These threats come on the heels of victories hard won by my parents and so many others. We are witnessing brazen threats to our democracy and attacks on all of our rights. But we must remember that we — the diverse coalition of people in America of every background, identity, and ability who know that we all have a stake in each other's lives and futures — are the majority in this country. Now is the time to lean into our collective power. [Join us in this fight at civilrights.org today.]( The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition of more than 240 organizations fighting to protect, defend, and expand the rights of every person in the United States. Born out of the civil rights movement, for nearly 75 years The Leadership Conference has been an essential convener, thought leader, and advocate for public policies that make our country more fair and more just. As some government officials try to take away our right to vote, We the Majority know that America's democracy is our strength and that it must never be manipulated for political purposes. As some try to pit us against each other, We the Majority know that we all benefit from one another's liberation and that vilifying people based on their identities hurts even those of us who have not been targeted. And as Big Tech barrels forward toward a future dominated by AI and other experimental technologies, We the Majority welcome innovation so long as it actually helps us, not hurts us. For too long, people in power have lived in fear of extremist forces who are trying to move us backward. But we outnumber them, and we have the power. The Leadership Conference is the leading organization harnessing that power and pointing the way to a better future. But we can't win this fight without you. [I hope that you'll join us, because a democracy that works for all of us must include all of us.]( In strength, Maya Wiley President and CEO The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights [LCCHR Logo]( 1620 L Street NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC 20036 | (202) 466-3311 [Fight for justice, inclusion, and fairness for all.]( [Donate Now]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( No longer want to receive our emails?
