Republicans in Congress are trying to force through an anti-immigrant, anti-democratic voter suppres

Republicans in Congress are trying to force through an anti-immigrant, anti-democratic voter suppression bill. And they are threatening to blow up the entire federal budget — which must pass by the end of September to avert a government shutdown — in a pathetic gamble to pass their obnoxious bill before the American people vote for president less than two months from now. A few points: - The Republicans’ latest anti-democratic bill is called the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. - They claim it would stop non-citizens from voting in federal elections. - But, as is so often the case with Republican legislation, the name of the bill is the opposite of what it would actually do. - It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. - And there are policies in place that reliably work to prevent non-citizens from voting. - So there is exactly zero evidence of voting by non-citizens to any meaningful degree. - But of course that doesn’t stop Republicans from continuing to whine about it as part of an overall cultural hysteria and wannabe authoritarianism. - There is solid evidence, though, that anti-democratic measures like this *do* make it harder for eligible voters — in particular immigrants and people of color — to exercise their fundamental right to vote. The so-called SAVE Act is anti-democratic. It is authoritarian. And it is racist. [Tell Congress:]( [Do not pass the misleadingly named, anti-democratic, and racist SAVE Act. Do not let MAGA extremists stonewall the must-pass federal spending package to force this or any other poison pill down the throats of the American people.]( [Click to add your name now.]( Thanks for taking action.
