Wallace Community College, in Alabama, became NICCâs president in July 2022. (Telegraph Herald) ACCREDITATION [New North Carolina Law Will Force Public Colleges to Change Accreditors]( The measure, which the Republican-led legislature passed quietly with no debate, will require public institutions to switch accreditors every cycle. The [law]( follows [similar legislation]( that [Florida enacted]( last year at the [behest]( of Gov. Ron DeSantis. (Inside Higher Ed, The Chronicle) ASSESSMENT [Broward College Gets Stinging Review From Accreditor]( The public college in Florida, which is in the midst of a [bumpy]( leadership [transition]( failed to meet or failed to turn in required documentation in 22 out of 40 areas measured by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schoolsâ Commission on Colleges. (South Florida Sun Sentinel, The Chronicle) CAMPUS CUTS I [U. of Nebraska at Kearney Proposes Eliminating 3 Departments and Cutting 30 Jobs]( The university systemâs president, Ted E. Carter, who is leaving to become Ohio State Universityâs president, said targeted program cuts and staff reductions would be needed to deal with a budget shortfall stemming from enrollment declines and inflationary pressures. Carterâs comments followed a protest of Kearneyâs planned cuts to close a $4.3-million budget gap.
