Two-year college enrollment dropped by more than 4 percent, while four-year colleges did not see such drops. (Forbes) ATHLETICS [Trial Begins in U. of Kentucky Title IX Lawsuit]( Two former college athletes sued the university in 2019, alleging that Kentucky doesnât offer enough athletic opportunities for women. The university has argued that, based on student surveys, its current sports selection satisfies the interests of its undergraduates. (Louisville Courier Journal) LEGAL PROCEEDINGS [Judge Says Former UC-Davis Student Charged in Stabbings Canât Go on Trial]( The defendant has severe mental illness, the judge ruled on Friday, and must first be treated at a psychiatric facility. He has been charged in a series of stabbings that killed two people, a student and a well-known local resident, earlier this year. (The New York Times) EVERYTHING MUST GO [Shuttered Iowa Wesleyan U. Is Auctioning Off Much of Its Campus]( On Monday, items from the student union â including âfull weight room and equipment,â âelectric lift,â and âso much moreâ â were up for grabs in the online auction. Tuesdayâs edition will feature numerous pianos and other instruments from the music department. (WQAD) LAWSUITS [Former UC-San Diego Doctor Awarded $39 Million in Donation Dispute]( The juryâs verdict came after the university sued Kevin Murphy, a former oncologist, and accused him of using a $10-million donation from a former patient to benefit himself. Murphy then countersued after the university declined to renew his contract in 2020, alleging that the university tried to cut off his access to the money even though it was supposed to support his research.
