Amid criticism that the popular state program helps many wealthy families that don’t need aid, the Legislature passed a bill allowing them to keep the data private. (Louisiana Illuminator) STUDENTS [U. of Northern Iowa Settles Discrimination Complaint With Student]( The unnamed student accused the university and its employees of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. As part of the settlement, the student will be paid $5,000 and housing and dining workers will receive training. (The Gazette) GLOBAL [China Tries to Keep Covid Out of Its Grueling College-Entrance Exams]( Some of the 11.9 million students taking the gaokao, as the two- to three-day exams are known, must travel from locked-down areas to testing sites in special vehicles, while others are being isolated for the duration of the process. (The New York Times) LEADERSHIP [Former College President Is Sentenced to Prison After Sex Sting]( Thomas Minar, then president of Franklin College, in Indiana, was arrested in 2020 in Wisconsin after traveling to meet a teenager who turned out to be a police officer. Franklin fired Minar, who was sentenced on Monday to six years in prison.
