Is Hacked by Ransomware Group Demanding $700,000]( The public university, which has [faced]( a [host]( of recent [financial problems]( said the cyberattack had resulted in the theft of studentsâ and employeesâ Social Security, bank-account, charge-card, and driverâs-license numbers. Thousands of people could be affected. The university did not say if it planned to pay the ransom, which is due by Saturday. (The Jersey Journal, The Chronicle) FACULTY [U. of Iowa Settles With Tenured Professor Over Unspecified âInternal Proceedingsâ]( The university will pay Kaikobad Irani, a lab director and cardiologist, $350,000 to resign by August 31 and will suspend âany internal proceedingsâ involving him. The agreement also specifies what will happen with his labâs federal research funding, including if it needs to be paid back. The settlement also says neither Irani nor the university admits wrongdoing.
