Our map shows new ones at Dartmouth College, UC-San Diego, and California State University at Los Angeles. THE LATEST [Today’s Arrests From the Pro-Palestinian Protests on Campus]( Hundreds of city and state police officers continued their operation overnight against an encampment at the University of California at Los Angeles, arresting what the [Daily Bruin]( described as “hundreds” of students, faculty members, and other protesters. The police, who were reported to have used stun grenades and tear gas, continued a sweep that began on Tuesday night, after a [mob of counterprotesters descended on the encampment]( and brawled for hours with the protesters before law enforcement intervened. In an overnight operation, local and state police officers with riot gear and armored vehicles dismantled an encampment at Dartmouth College and arrested 90 people, including students, nonstudents, faculty members, and two reporters for the student newspaper, [The Dartmouth]( reported. One history professor [posted]( that “I have now been banned from the campus where I have taught for 34 years.” Following up on their [arrest of nearly 300 protesters]( on Tuesday night at Columbia University and City College of the City University of New York, New York Police Department officers cleared an encampment at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus, arresting 15, [The Observer]( reported. Seventeen people were arrested on Wednesday as police officers broke up an encampment at the University of Texas at Dallas, [The Texas Tribune]( reported. The police operation came days after [dozens were detained]( in two [rounds of arrests]( at UT’s Austin campus. Police officers in Portland, Ore., this morning removed protesters from Portland State University’s library, arresting 12, [KGW]( reported. THE ALTERNATIVE [Under Deal With Protesters, U. of Minnesota Flagship Pledges Progress on Demands]( The agreement calls for the encampment on the Twin Cities campus to end. Protesters also promised not to disrupt final exams or commencement. In return, the university committed to making progress on six demands. The pacific outcome followed [similar steps on a few other campuses](. (The Minnesota Daily, The Chronicle) THE WHITE HOUSE [Biden Denounces Campus Violence and Antisemitism but Defends Right to Dissent]( In an unscheduled televised statement, the president condemned protesters who, he said, had taken their grievances over Israel’s war against Hamas too far. But he rejected Republican calls to summon the National Guard to stamp out the campus protests. (The New York Times) CAMPUS SPEECH [U.S. House Passes Antisemitism Bill With Broad Bipartisan Support Amid Campus Arrests]( The legislation would require the U.S. Education Department to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism in enforcing antidiscrimination laws. The bill’s prospects in the Senate are not clear. The definition has been [criticized as fostering the censorship]( of any critics of Israel, not just purveyors of religious or ethnic hatred.
