More than 75 protesters were arrested on Monday at the University of Texas at Austin, but apparently many of them were not students, the [Austin American-Stateman]( reported. About 35 demonstrators were arrested at California State Polytechnic University’s Humboldt campus, as law-enforcement officers cleared two buildings that the protesters had occupied, [KCRA]( reported. Thirty protesters were detained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and six of them were then arrested and released, [The Daily Tar Heel]( reported. Police officers in riot gear broke up an encampment at the University of Utah and arrested 17 students, [The Salt Lake Tribune]( reported. Portland State University closed the Oregon campus after protesters broke into the main library, [KGW]( reported. CAMPUS UNREST II [Some Colleges With Pro-Palestinian Protests Avoid Arresting Students]( Under a deal with protesters, Northwestern University will take steps to support Palestinian students and will allow protests to continue on the Illinois campus’s Deering Meadow through the end of spring-quarter classes, on June 1, as long as only one tent is used, [The Daily Northwestern]( reported. At Wesleyan University, in Connecticut, the president, Michael S. Roth, acknowledged that protesters were violating campus rules but said that, as long as they remained nonviolent, his staff would not attempt to remove them from the area, [The Middletown Press]( reported. A similar hands-off approach has allowed peaceful protests to continue on campuses of the University of California system, the [Los Angeles Times]( reported.
