Will Require Students to Read Controversial âMusket Fireâ Speech]( Starting in the winter-2024 semester, the Utah university, run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will require freshmen to take a course that includes, among other readings, a speech in which a former BYU president calls on Mormons to defend the churchâs teachings with âmusket fire.â LGBTQ students say the speech incites violence and hatred against them. Plans to Cut $31 Million by 2031]( The Roman Catholic university in Wisconsin said it needed to reduce its spending by some 7 percent and rethink its program offerings, among other steps, to balance its studentsâ increased need for financial aid.
