Thankfully donations have poured in from around the country to help rebuild. But I’m particularly encouraged by what is happening on the ground as the community rallies support. One local business [donated]( over $100K. Following the fires that devastated three black churches in St. Landry Parish last April, later this week Giles Automotive will make a donation of at least $108k to help restore the historic churches. The campaign, Giles Gives Back to St. Landry Churches, set a goal to raise $50,000 which Giles Automotive would match dollar for dollar for a total donation of $100,000. Representatives with Giles say the goal has been more than achieved in thanks to the incredible local community and some national contributions that came from as far as California and Oregon. This is so encouraging. Let’s keep praying for these congregations to rebuild their churches and their lives. [Christians in Kansas Walk for Wells]( Meanwhile in Kansas, local believers are putting their feet and their wallets to good use by [raising money]( to dig wells for impoverished communities in Africa: Mid-Shore residents have supported the clean water initiative for years, especially since Denton resident and owner of Lifetime Well Drilling, Ken Wood, made it his life’s mission more than a decade ago. Wood travels to Africa four times each year and, as of 2018, had constructed 1,290 wells in Ghana and 860 in Tanzania. The May 18 walk in Preston, which attracted 80 people, helped Wood raise $2,500 for future missions. [The Underappreciated Service of the Parking Team]( I absolutely loved this [piece]( from Matthew Towles in CT Pastors. He writes about the vital ministry of the church parking team: These are opportunities: to serve, to help, to worship. That Sunday morning motorcade of believer and nonbeliever, seeker and pilgrim, sinner and saint—it pulls into our parking lot weekend after weekend. And every time, the parking team stands in the way of all of those vehicles, directing the congregation into that narrow space of worship by a light reflected. Yes and amen! To the folks in vests in churches around the country this year—we salute you and the important ministry you serve.
