Shaker Barbecue returns to Monday Night Foodball September 29, 2023 Shaker Barbeque ended its summer

Shaker Barbecue returns to Monday Night Foodball [READER]( [Food & Drink]( September 29, 2023 Shaker Barbeque ended its summerlong weekend stand at Ludlow Liquors last week, and the barbecue sauce smeared across my sticky gob hadn’t even dried before jefe Mike Shaker made a break for the nation’s capital to clean it out of shellfish and go swimming in a river of Aperol and Prosecco. By the time I’d tracked him down, he’d been slacking in a daylong massage, like some kind of pampered pooh-bah. "Breaux," I said, "you’re not done yet; I need you on October 2." He chewed on this thoughtfully, as if it were a butter-slicked stone crab claw, and looked me dead in the eye. “I do have a very particular set of skills,” he said. “Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.” My nightmare is your dream come true when [Shaker Barbeque returns]( to [Monday Night Foodball]( the Reader’s weekly chef pop-up at Ludlow Liquors. You already know that [Shaker]( is a linchpin in the city’s new-school barbecue insurrection, but for some reason, his exemplary central Texas-style barbecue took a back seat to his double-smoked brisket smashburger on the Ludlow patio this summer. No more. This Monday, he will look for you, he will find you, and he will kill you with a classic Hill Country barbecue platter, headlined by 14-hour, post oak-smoked prime brisket; peppery beef hot links, mac and cheese; beans; thick Texas white bread; pickles; and sauce. For $45 you’ll never go hungry again. Payback starts at 5 PM with CHIRP Radio on the decks and goes until sell out this Monday, October 2, at 2959 N. California.
