Spooky season is here! [READER]( The Daily Reader September 27, 2023 I’ve written about my enthusiasm for horror in this newsletter before. As the final days of September come to a close, I’ve begun to daydream about the horror movies I will watch in the coming month. I suppose I could begin my ritual scary-picture showings a few days early, but I enjoy this season because I have other friends who like to marathon terrifying cinema for a month alongside me. And I get a distinct joy out of experiencing a frightfest film with people I care about. As I gear up for the holiday, I figured I’d share a few of my old Reader stories that fit Halloween: “[Because Count Orlok can’t speak for himself]( (October 15, 2019) “[At Mad Mobster’s peculiar crossroads of real and imagined horrors]( (March 5, 2015) “[The Reader’s guaranteed unboring homegrown Halloween mix]( (October 24, 2018) “[Feeding the beast: Horror vinyl finds its cult]( (October 20, 2015) “[The mystery punk from The Dead Next Door]( (October 4, 2020) “[How punk adopted the Godfather of Gore]( (October 26, 2022) “[When shot-on-video horror met the Hot Mix 5]( (October 19, 2020) Of course, there are plenty of other stories in our archives that might scratch the Halloween itch ([this archive dive post from 2017 is another good place to start](. Given my own interest in Halloween-adjacent stories, I hope I can write more such pieces in the near future. Sincerely, “[The Next Meme Stock?
