If you’re missing that warm, fuzzy, S&B sense of community, you can still take your soup inside

If you’re missing that warm, fuzzy, S&B sense of community, you can still take your (cold) soup inside and hang out for Hideout Trivia [READER]( [Food & Drink]( My second favorite pop-up is back. Well sort of, [as they say](. The Hideout’s long-running Wednesday night Soup & Bread series has been on hold for the past two years, for painfully obvious reasons. So it was a thrill on Monday to hear that it was back—although curtailed as Soup & Bread To Go, a monthly pick-up soup pop-up in front of the bar on the third Wednesday each month through April. As I spent the week ruminating on how the series served as some inspiration for the Reader’s [Monday Night Foodball]( pop-ups*, it sold out—not just for January, but for its entire four-month run. I have no excuse. I’m constantly stressing to aspiring Foodball attendees to preorder early—because stuff sells out fast. But just like MNF, if you’ve slept on preorders, there will be a limited number of soups available for walk-ins. And if you’re missing that warm, fuzzy, S&B sense of community, you can still take your (cold) soup inside and have a drink, and hang out for Hideout Trivia with Paul Durica of Chicago History Museum. $10 gets you a quart of soup, a hunk of [the best bread]( from [Middlebrow]( plus the soup recipe—in January it’s a sweet and sour cabbage from Lula Café, prepared by Ethan Fischer of [Urban Canopy]( (proceeds benefit North Lawndale’s [Soup for the Soul](. But wait—there’s more. As I was typing these words, word came that a second, vegan soup from Swim Café will also be available in January, prepared by Allison Scott of Floriole (a limited number available only for walk-ins). Going forward, two soups each month, at least one vegan. See, sometimes it’s OK to sleep. *big news on MNF’s season two coming soon!
