Finding Yourself [READER]( The current issue of the [Chicago Reader]( has [several features]( related to mental health, including a 20-page [My State of Mind: The Guide Book]( by the SocialWorks organization. There are dozens of resources, including many for youth and young adults. These are challenging times for so many people, and we should remember to focus on keeping our own health strong or we can’t help those around us, if needed. In her Reader cover story, [“You’re Going to be OK,”]( Rima Parikh writes about health anxiety: “During the pandemic, health anxiety has been complicated by the fact that there is a legitimate threat of a scary illness, especially when factoring in one’s personal level of risk. Many people are having COVID anxiety, but some people are experiencing it more severely in terms of worries over catching the virus. This worry leads to people taking extreme measures—for example, not leaving the house at all.” Emma Oxnevad’s piece, [“Therapy patients go digital,”]( notes, “Despite the challenges associated with adapting to virtual counseling, some have remarked that this new model is far more convenient than commuting to an office.” There are other features and resources in the issue, including a biography of [Edith Rockefeller McCormick]( and a feature on [Brave Space Alliance]( a group of Black and trans activists building a network of support. I recently joined the board of BSA as an ally of the trans community, and I’m really proud of how many people they are helping as they pivot their resources in this time of crisis. As we face the unknown of the next few weeks and months, after a confusing and dreadful 2020 so far, take the time you need to make sure you are able to face these challenges. Sometimes, we can’t be a hero without getting help, or just taking some time away. Sometimes, we need to rely on others to guide us.
