Welcome to Edition 89 of Alex In My Inbox. Alex In My Inbox is a weekly copywriting series where I share interesting, actionable, and hilarious copywriting tips from "Alex." Alex is an anonymous copywriter who shares these tips with me so I can share them with you. But first, I wanted to share more about the platform I [hire freelance marketers from.]( Yesterday, I talked about the benefits of hiring freelancers vs. full-time, in-house employees. And a few thousand of you checked out the platform I recommended to hire freelance marketers from, [MarketerHire.]( Because it was so well received, I just wanted to share it again so everyone had the link. I used to be a marketing freelancer for hire on their platform and have been using it over the past few years to hire amazing marketers for my businesses. If you want to work with an amazing marketer, I highly recommend [chatting with them.]( I especially love how quickly they began sending me marketers to interview and that they shoulder much of the administrative burden of working with others. And the pre-vetted talent they have are world-class marketers. They have some of the top marketers from small and large companies alike. It's truly impressive! sponsored  Today, Alex has an email for us about a belief that’s holding you back from writing better copy.  Let’s see what he’s got for us:     Dear Chase, This email won’t be very long, but it will be one of the more impactful ones. At least, I hope it’ll be impactful. This is one thing I had to learn the hard way as a copywriter, and I wanna share it now with you, Chase. There’s a belief that a lot of new marketers hold that deters them from making real money. Every day that you keep this in your brain, you leave thousands on the table. I’ve mentioned before that you should have a 3 to 1 ratio of value emails to sales emails when hitting your list. I need to clarify something. Just because you’re giving value in an email does NOT mean that you can’t still sell. In fact, sometimes value emails are the best way to sell. I should amend my prescription to this: Send 3 soft-sell emails for every 1 hard-sell email. When you’re giving value, you should still give people an opportunity to buy. Give out all kinds of sauce in a value email. Inspire people. Make them feel good. And at the end, offer them a chance to get more access, more information, or more stuff at a premium. You will still make sales with a value email if you position it correctly. And once you’ve done this three times, the hard-sell email you hit them with will hit even harder. Here’s the thing: You want a list of buyers. A 50,000-person email list doesn’t mean anything if they don’t ever wanna be sold to. For a client of mine, we have two lists. A list of 50k window shoppers and occasional buyers, and a list of 3k VIP buyers. We’ve made more money off of the list of 3k than the 50k by a LONG SHOT. Size doesn’t matter. You and I know that, Chase. If someone doesn’t wanna give me or my clients money, they can unsubscribe. And that’s what I shoot for. You should be selling hard enough that your unsubscribe rate is a metric you optimize for. The higher, the better. The belief that most new marketers have is that selling is a bad thing, and you should nurture for a really long time before you force someone to make a buying decision. Maybe that works for some brands. But, if someone doesn’t wanna buy in the first 30 days of receiving emails from you, it’s very unlikely that they ever will. So, don’t be afraid. Send more emails, and sell harder. Peace and love. Yours truly, Alex. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
