Welcome to Edition 64 of Alex In My Inbox. Alex In My Inbox is a weekly copywriting series where I share interesting, actionable, and hilarious copywriting tips from "Alex." Alex is an anonymous copywriter who shares these tips with me so I can share them with you.  Before we dive into this week's edition... I wanted to let you know that Alex (aka Cardinal Mason) and my copywriting course is increasing in price on Monday. It's increasing from $599 to $997. If you're a freelance copywriter looking to get more clients and charge more money, [this course is for you.]( Get in before Sunday at 11:59pm EST to save yourself some money. Today, Alex has an email about why it’s so important to learn copywriting in the digital age. This was a great email, so I hope you enjoy it. Let’s check it out.     Dear Chase, I had an epiphany last night. I always knew how valuable the skill of copywriting is, but I kind of sold myself on it by talking it out to myself. I need you to really internalize this, because this is pretty deep. People likely haven’t thought about this before. There are two types of people in the world. Type 1 people wander through their life not knowing how to get what they want. They struggle to get people to give them stuff. Type 2 people move through life forcefully, knowing what to say and what to do to get what they want. People give them stuff all the time. They get lucky. They meet cool people. They make money. The problem with Type 1s are not that they just stay poor for eternity. That’s definitely an issue, but it’s the least of their problems. Type 1s typically split off into two sub-groups. A fraction of them will end up in prison, because they don’t know how to use their words/actions to get what they want. They steal stuff, or they assault people in order to get stuff. They *think* they’re a Type 2, because they can kinda get stuff, but they don’t have any meaningful relationships. And nobody respects them. The other sub-group is arguably even worse off than the criminals. These Type 1s end up working a sh*tty job and get bombed on every single day by their coworkers, bosses, their spouse (if they’re lucky enough), and their friends (the few that they have). Type 1s live a life of absolute misery because they are completely unable to communicate with others to get things that they want. They don’t get lucky. They don’t make money. They don’t have very much fun. They don’t have any good relationships with people. And they still get no respect. Type 2s live life in a way that most people will never understand. The difference between the two groups is very simple. Type 1s are not less attractive, less talented, or less intelligent than Type 2s. Physically, things are pretty equal. Type 2s just happen to have a skill that Type 1s either haven’t learned yet, or are too lazy to learn altogether. It’s the skill of understanding people and being persuasive. Also known as copywriting. Some refer to this as the skill of sales, but that’s secondary to copywriting. Before something is spoken, it is written. Especially now, where some things are never spoken at all. Copywriting is the underlying skill that all Type 2s have learned and inherently understand. They understand what makes people tick. They understand what people find valuable. This skill gives them confidence, which makes it even easier to portray this message. Type 2s are able to make insane amounts of money from a business. They can go to rich people and pitch them an idea for which they will receive money in exchange for. They can get people to fall in love with them. They can finagle a reservation at a packed restaurant that has a 3-month waitlist. They can get better prices on expensive items like watches, cars, boats, condos, and charter flights. And even when they win, the person on the other end of the deal loves them. This is not just a natural gift that people are born with. I don’t believe that at all. I believe that this is a learned skill that only takes a few months to learn, but a decade to master. That’s why we’re struck by dudes in their 40s and 50s who just seem to have the world by the throat. We all WANT to be able to have every single thing in our vicinity under control. We all WANT to have people do things for us, give us things, and love us for what we’re able to accomplish. Everyone wants to be a Type 2. And if you’re reading this and you think you’re a Type 2, you’re probably not. You haven’t experienced how a Type 2 really lives. It all starts with one skill. Copywriting. The umbrella for persuasion, communication, and demonstrating value. If you haven’t thought about how to take the first step toward mastering this skill, you’re shooting yourself in the foot. Would you agree, Chase? I think that the world needs more Type 2s. It would reduce crime, the divorce rate, and make the world a better place. If you’re not on the path to learn the skill of copywriting so you can live a life like this, it’s time to start. You know what the endgame for a Type 1 is. Thank God we’re not that, Chase. Yours truly, Alex.
