Getting past inflation’s monstrous price tag

Americans already struggle with inflation at the gas pump, the grocery store and in the sinking value of every dollar in the bank. But in the past, there is one thing the Federal Reserve has never done, which they are now doing: raising rates into a recession. The Fed is supposed to raise rates when the economy is running hot, then cut them as inflation surges. But they're doing the exact opposite. The U.S. economy's first-quarter gross domestic product was negative, and analysts predict Q2 GDP to also be negative, giving us an official recession. Yet rates are expected to go up significantly according to the Fed's new dot plot from their last meeting. [Chart]( They've admitted it could get worse before it gets better, and that's true.
