Hi {NAME}, I hope you're doing well. I remember taking a class once in university where we had to learn how to create a “business plan.” The professor gave us a fictional business idea and we had to theorize what the next few years would look like. - How would we spend the initial capital? - Where would the customers come from? - At what point would the company start generating a profit? It sounds like a great idea on paper, but it’s worthless because the real world moves too fast and unpredictably. Instead of writing out fifty pages and wasting several weeks of work, you could make more progress testing your idea by trying to get sales. So I’ve always equated “business plans” as one of those antiquated tools for the MBA types who have never owned a business before. However, almost a decade ago I came across a “business model tool” that actually works. It strips away a hundred pages of BS and puts a spotlight on what makes or breaks a business. Instead of spending weeks on it, you only spend twenty minutes. It’s called the Business Model Canvas and it was created by Alexander Osterwalder. This puts a huge spotlight on the important questions such as your value proposition, where are you going to find customers, and what are the most important activities. I took this Canvas, and applied it for affiliate marketing since our industry is different than a "normal business." Read: [The 20-Minute Game Plan: How to Create an Affiliate Campaign Canvas]( // A Legend Passes Away I was sad to hear that Dan Kennedy passed away this week. He's probably one of the most influential people ever when it comes to copywriting and direct response marketing. He's your favorite marketer's favorite marketer - we're all using and implementing concepts that he pioneered without realizing it. I want to share two things that I've learned from him from over the years: 1. My landing page copies went to the next level after reading "[The Ultimate Salesletter](" 2. I deleted a lot of my social media several years ago after reading "[No B.S. Time Management](." He argued that time is the most valuable thing you have and you need to put up barriers to your time if you want to produce your best work. Even in 2019, you had to fax him if you wanted to get in touch with him. Thank you Mr. Kennedy for a lifetime of lessons. // A Podcast Interview About My Personal Financial Workflows It always surprised me whenever I heard about celebrities and athletes going broke. How is it possible to go broke when they've made so much money? And I've seen this first hand countless times in this industry. Someone crushes it in affiliate marketing - flashes their lifestyle hard online, and then they completely disappear the next year. It's not about how much you make, it's about how much you keep. Unfortunately, most parents and schools don't teach people the basics of personal finance. It's something that I've really set out to understand and master over the past few years. I know the concept of "budgeting" seems like a snooze fest, but there are so many apps out there that automate and makes things easier. I probably spend an hour or two a month at the most managing my personal finances, but that time spent gives me complete clarity on my situation. My friends over at AsianEfficiency did an hour podcast with me where I share all the tools, apps, and workflows that I use for my personal finances. [Listen to it]( Have an awesome weekend!
