Hey Boo! You might wanna skip this one if you’re not able to tolerate a little tough love. This is in response to a big uptick in direct messages I’ve been getting since Bret and I have been posting about our adventures through Europe over the past 6 weeks. I keep reading things like… “Can you tell me how to start my own thing?” “Must be nice. Some of us have to work.” “How do I get out of debt if I ______.” But then in response to a video I posted of the trip Bret and I shared with our adult kids and their spouses, I got this one… This one really got to me! [image]( Two things… - Worrying about money is terrifying. I know. I’ve been there. - You cannot count on a job, one stream of income, luck, the lottery or someone to come to your rescue. If you want something different, YOU need to make that happen. Then there is this kind of message… [image](=) This is a great question. But why didn’t she type this query into a Google, or ChatGPT search bar? Here’s why… Reason No 1. If we ask someone else, and they don’t respond, or don’t give us the answer we need, then we're off the hook. Reason No 2. If we actually had the answers or the steps, then we would have to take action, and subconsciously, we’re not ready to change. Reason No 3. We don’t believe we have what it takes to figure these things out ourselves. NEWSFLASH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO DO ANYTHING IS AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET! Just 15 years ago, if you wanted a new career, to learn about investing or start a business, you basically had to go to the library. Podcasts, Google, YouTube and audio books weren’t even a thing… Today, the exact steps are available to you in an abbreviated, save-you-from-disaster, Cliff Note form, directly from the world’s leading expert in that thing. Wanna figure out how to homeschool your kids while traveling through Europe in a van? There’s a YouTube video for that. Need step-by-step instructions on how to make an extra 5-figures this month selling off the clutter in your home? There’s a free webinar for that. No idea how to hire someone to help you grow your business? There’s an audio book for that. It’s all out there. But no one person is going to break that down for you in one Instagram message. If you want something different in your life, and for your family, you need to take action, and it starts with research! No one single podcast or YouTube video is going to have all the answers. But you have to be hungry to learn more. Research. Learn. Implement. Repeat. Bret and I are no different than you. These are the principles we continue to rely on when we want to uplevel our life. - Research how it’s done and who has done it. - Take action as we’re learning. Start messy. Failure is how you get better! - Invest in courses, self-guided education and mentors who can save us time and money. [image]( I realize our travels may feel aspirational, or even unrelatable to some. That’s okay! I post about it because I know you need to see what’s possible for you. I will never tire of reminding you… It has NEVER been easier to start something online. The opportunities that exist today to work from home or even to start something while you keep the security of your current job!!! This stuff didn’t even exist 10 years ago. Dear Gen X - I need you to hear this loud and clear. Times have changed. Quite frankly, teenages are figuring this out (probably because they aren't indoctrinated with the outdated messages that we heard). Here’s the truth. No one's going to save you. No one's going to give you a scholarship. No one's going to mentor you for free. No one's going to take you under their wing and help you figure it out. It’s you. So stop asking rhetorical questions. Stop with the fear. Stop with the envy. Go get yours. It is 1000% up to you! I’m not special. This isn’t a luck thing. I’m just willing to bet on myself and invest in people who have proven themselves successful. I’m not reinventing the wheel! I’m simply willing to pay for guidance from experts (yes, we did this even when we were broke), because time is money. There are literally courses that teach money mastery, reselling, course creation, basic entrepreneurship, social media, how to get brand deals (and more), for less than $200! This amazing trip, the flexibility I’ve created, and our ability to bless others with our finances is all possible for you too. But it starts with mindset and a belief that it is possible for you too. So, if you’re one of the hundreds of people DMing me or other experts for advice, I love that you’re asking the questions… but your answers will not come in the form of an Instagram message.
