I realise that it=E2=80= =99s customary to say this but I do genuinely feel this way. I am back to w= here I started in a very literal sense. When I embarked on my career at Cat= hay Pacific 23 years ago, I started out in Cargo sitting at a desk that I c= an see from my office now, and I am very pleased to be back. =20 =20 Of course, I find myself on another steep lear= ning curve having spent the past few years immersed in a very different sid= e of the business. My first few weeks have been exactly as I anticipated = =E2=80=93 fast paced, enlightening, inspiring, and a very welcome change. I= am grateful for the assistance and wise counsel I have received from my pr= edecessor, George Edmunds. I=E2=80=99m equally delighted that we will retai= n George as a customer, and you can read more about that [on our website](3D"http://=).= =20 =20 These past few years have seen very strong cargo revenues,= but set against operating in one of the most challenging times for air car= go and Hong Kong, with the backdrop of a pandemic that hopefully we will ne= ver experience again. I arrive in very different circumstances, with much c= apacity restored but in an uncertain market, facing weaker consumer confide= nce and global economic pressures. =20 =20 Despite all this, there is much to be positive about. We a= re now into the traditional peak period and we=E2=80=99re seeing very encou= raging demand out of our home market of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area = (GBA), in particular to North America, which is being driven largely by e-c= ommerce. We have added more weekly freighter services to North America and = we=E2=80=99re seeing healthy demand from there as well. We are fortunate to= have an excellent network and the perishables season will be starting soon= in the southern hemisphere =E2=80=93 including lobsters and fruit =E2=80= =93 and Beaujolais nouveau exports are just around the corner. =20 =20 We don=E2=80=99t expect the peak will match last year =E2= =80=93 the market is very different from a year ago, as all our customers h= ave been conveying to us =E2=80=93 but we=E2=80=99re feeling optimistic and= continuing with our plans for five more weekly transpacific services per w= eek from this month. =20 =20 We are committed to realising our vision of becoming the w= orld=E2=80=99s most customer-centric air cargo service brand and we continu= e to enhance our services and solutions. We recently received our [CEIV Lith= ium Batteries accreditation](=3D"), which adds to the existing safety protocol= s we have in place to ensure the safe shipment of goods in the growing e-co= mmerce segment of the market.=E2=80=AF =20 =20 In supporting the development of the HKIA Logistics Park i= n Dongguan, we have just finished a trial with a global forwarding partner = to introduce IATA ONE Record milestones on multi-modal shipments from Dongg= uan for export from Hong Kong. Now upstream acceptance, security clearance = and arrival at Hong Kong International Airport can be logged, which will im= prove shipment visibility for customers ahead of the roll-out of IATA ONE R= ecord as an industry standard in 2026. In other news from the GBA, we have = just finished trials with Dimerco using this [multi-modal lane for imports](3D"=)= for the first time. This reduced the journey time for a shipment of integr= ated circuits from Singapore by a day against the previous air-truck route.= =20 =20 =20 On the commercial side, we have also worked with another o= f our customers [on an important project](3D"). Using an API interface, a pil= ot programme in the US and Europe has made Cathay Cargo=E2=80=99s agreed ag= ency-specific rates and availability visible in Kuehne+Nagel=E2=80=99s own = booking engine, enabling access to space, rates and the ability to secure i= nstant confirmation directly from Cathay Cargo=E2=80=99s inventory. We inte= nd to expand this capability to more customers as we know it will offer mor= e convenience and more choice. There will be more on this in the coming mon= ths. These innovations are keeping us front of mind for judging panels, and= we=E2=80=99re delighted to have been shortlisted twice in the [Payload Asia A= wards](3D"h=).
